Humira rash

The last few injections of Humira that I have given Jacob, have been causing a reaction. After the shot the area swells like an egg immediately, and then a rash appears. The medication does state that swelling and a rash are common side effects. I am just wondering why now, when he wasn't getting one before.

I started getting rashes from my humria on my fourth dose of it. I started taking singular (an anti leukotriene) and xyxal (an anti histamine), I take them for two days before my injection and a benadryl about 45 minutes to a hour right before the injection. I continue for about 2 days afterwards. Since then, I have thankfully, only had one other reaction...

my wife has RA and had JRA when she was young... She has uveitis and is using humira also next to cyclosporine (very good for your kidneys...not).
But no rashes until now, she does still have inflammings in her eyes and that still doesn't stop. The swollen knees etc. are also well-known.. Se sometimes gets injections with a cortison kind of stuff in here knees when they release the fluid which as build up in ther knees. His is due to to much walking...so she has to slow down a lot.
She has a HLA-B27 gen defect which means she has RA, Bechtrew, psoriasis, and uveitis (in dutch they call it rainbow Fleece inflammation (regenboog vlies onsteking)). The only disease she as not got with this gen defect is crohns disease.
She also gets injections with celestolen (something like that) in her eyes when the uveitis is going to fast next to prednisolon drops. And atropine drops to enlarge her pupil to prevent sticking from the pupil to the rest of her eye (which is occuring anyway, cycloxxxx?pine?? drop ..stronger than atropine will some times help to remove or lessen the sticking but in the end the sticking did ocure....)
They also make a OCT scan of her retina so they can see if it thickens there due to uveitis.
She usually has it in the back of her eye so then a OCT helps to see if it improves or not.
She has had several prednison high dosis infusion when having uveitis which did not cure fast enough...
So the skin on here arm swolln to fast and the skin broke so she has a lymph edema (dutch: lymfe oedeem). Now the problem is that because the humira brakes the imume system the infections in her arm show up. (wound rose, dutch: wond roos). She get a antibiotic injection every month with penedural and when the infection still gets thru she gets broxil tables cure (anti biotics).

She goes to a fysiotherapy who does her neck and she has a brechtrew group in which they do excerises (she's 38, and the youngest there...) and she's enyoing the group very much...

Good to hear that there is some thing to fix when she gets a rash after humira. We did not get this yet (and where glad we did not)....

My wife has had JRA from her 8 th year but had issues with her eyes when she was younger....she remembered.

I know this al sounds very bad but this is a summary of the 12 years i've been with her still.
I'm very happy to have two parents (in law?) (dutch schoon ouders) who help me with her a lot.

There is one thing you have to be carefull about.... please do not trust every doktors judgement and keep asking them many questions... after all they are still human beings and they also make mistakes.
Being polite doesn't help you're son very much, write down what the issues where and how it was solved and after a while you get a good inside what to do when you're son had a issue...
And you are able to help the doktor with some hints what to do when you're there for the xxx'th time with eye, knee or what else problem...

good luck.
Greetings,

Bas

I'm 35 & have a similar story to Jacob. I was diagnosed w/ Iritis at 2 yrs of age & shortly thereafter was diagnosed w/ JRA. My joint flares were so few & far between that they were addressed w/ NSAIDS only. Throughout the years I did need dilating & pred drops to treat Iritis flares. My arthritis has only in the last few years been bothersome enough to require prescription medication & has been relatively controlled w/ Plaquinil & Naproxin. However, I've been on Cyclogel twice daily & Prednisolone Acetate 4-6 times daily for the last 8 months. I have using the Pred every 2 hours for the last 8 weeks w/ no improvement. My rheumy will soon be starting me on Humira in attempt to control the Iritis. I'm going to my first Ophthamologist (my normal one doesn't specialize) that specializes in Rheumatology & Iritis specifically this week. I know first-hand how scary new drugs can be. I wish Jacob & his family all the best on his journey through pain management!
